Meeting the adviser: The new ECpE Academic Adviser, Lindsay Diers, started her position in ECpE September 8. Before coming to Iowa State, Diers was an adviser at Des Moines Area Community College where she worked primarily with transfer students. “I helped students plan their schedules, made sure they met graduation requirements, and assisted students with their questions and concerns,†Diers says.
Joining the family: Diers says she was attracted to Iowa State because she enjoyed her time here when she was a graduate student, and missed the school spirit, student organizations, and campus activities that Iowa State offers. “I was drawn to this position because of the people who work in the ECpE department. Everyone here is so great! I really enjoyed my interview and meeting with the staff, faculty, and students. This department has a ‘family’ feeling within a larger institution. I also really love that I will get to work with students throughout their duration here at Iowa State.â€
Making the transition: Diers will primarily work with current and prospective Electrical and Computer Engineering students in setting up their schedules, answering their academic questions, and assisting them in navigating academic policies and procedures. She also will teach Engineering 101. “College students are the best to work with because they have just completed a major step in their life and are transitioning into their next set of goals. Being able to watch firsthand as the students develop over the years and figure out who they are and what they want in life is amazing. I love watching that florescent light bulb click!â€
Helping students: “I’ve really found my passion in working with students, so please feel free to drop by anytime to simply say ‘hi’ while passing through,†says Diers, “As of right now, I am pretty available for students; however, I am still in the learning process!†Diers’ office is located in 2216 Coover Hall.
