If you have a disability and require accommodations, please contact the instructor early in the semester so that your learning needs may be appropriately met. You will need to provide documentation of your disability to the Disability Resources (DR) office, located on the main floor of the Student Services Building, Room 1076, 515-294-7220.
From the day your RAN activates until the end of the first week of the semester, you can drop courses using AccessPlus. Follow the steps listed below to drop a course after the first week of the semester. Courses must be dropped before the deadline each semester, usually in late October and late March.
You can make multiple schedule changes on one add/drop slip. See the Academic Calendar for official deadline dates, and note that the deadline schedule is different in the summer.
Be aware of your drop limit (ISU Catalog).
Dropping all of your classes is called withdrawal, and involves a different procedure than the one outlined.
To drop a class after the first week of the semester:
Step | Action |
1 | Check how many credits you will have left if you drop this course and see if you will maintain full-time status. Full-time status can affect your scholarships, financial aid, and eligibility for your parents' health insurance, so check these things before dropping below full-time status. You may be able to add a second half-semester course to stay full time. |
2 | Check AccessPlus to see if you have enough drops left. Freshmen start with 5, transfer students with 4, and students who already have a degree with 2. Exception: Your drop limit is "reset" after your first semester; drops made in that first semester don't count. |
3 | Check to see how dropping this class might affect your degree program. Consult the flowcharts or your program of study. |
4 | If there are any issues involving Steps 1-3, talk to your advisor. If you have completed Steps 1-3 and find no problems, get a drop slip from 2205 Coover Hall. |
5 | Take the drop slip to your instructor and have him or her sign it. |
6 | Take the drop slip to 2205 Coover Hall to get an advisor's signature. |
7 | Take the drop slip to 10 Enrollment Services Center for processing. You will lose one of your drops, and a fee will be charged to your U-Bill. |
Once the first week of the semester is over, no schedule changes can be made through AccessPlus. You can drop second half-semester courses through the end of the first week they meet by going to the Scheduling Office in 10 Enrollment Services Center. After the first week, follow the steps listed above.
